SEVEN DAYS OF RECIPES; DAY ONE: French Toast Skewers

Hi Everyone.

Happy Sunday.

I love entertaining big groups of people but as you already know I do not have the luxury to do that....I can't have the big three course dinners I dream of , you know, where we all sit around a big wooden table, bottles of wine being passed around, everyone laughing and just having a good time...yy--eah! that never happens.

What happens is that everyone just stands, sits on the four dinning chairs I have-sometimes we don't even pull all the chairs, since there is no space-,or we take turns sitting on the couch. This is why I have resulted to easy finger foods. This has been so great so far, there are always small groups talking about different things, then sometimes everyone's stories seem to intertwine and before you know it the whole room is talking about the same thing before everyone is destructed and back to the small groups. At this point everyone has subconsciously joined the "musical chairs" , now some people that were standing are now sitting.....I could go on about this for days....

Anyway, I have been meaning to host a finger food inspired breakfast, hence the French Toast Skewers recipe. This was so easy and so inexpensive- which if you love cooking for big groups, it's always a plus if your ingredients are inexpensive-.

YOU NEED:

-Bread- as many slices are you want
-Eggs
-Milk
-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
-Any kind of fruit preserves -I used strawberry preserves
-Strawberries or any fresh fruits you have
-Butter

WHAT TO DO:

1. In a medium to large bowl, whisk the milk, eggs and cinnamon until everything is mixed well and there are no cinnamon lumps. Set aside for now.

2. Take two sliced of bread and on one apply the preserves and sandwich together like you would a pb&j. Set aside. Unless you like soggy French toast, don't soak in egg mixture until you're ready to cook

3.In a medium size pan, heat 1 tablespoon of butter on medium high heat. Soak both sides bread in egg mixture and place gently in the pan...cook each side until it's golden brown, remove and drain extra oil on a paper towel.

4.For easy finger food, cut bread into 1 inch cubes and skewer with your choice of fresh fruits.

Happy toasting. Thank you for reading.

Sincerely
K.

How To Make A Blow Box For Your Twinkle Lights

Hello everyone,

Happy Friday.

So there is a nest with baby birds in the flower bushes outside our dinning room window. For the last 4 days we thought it was a dog that was crying...come to find out, we had little baby birds that are now part of our extended pet family.

Anyway, summer is creeping up..yes! I know it feels like summer year round in San Diego but I just want to have small summer harvest BBQ already.

I've been looking for twinkle lights since I don't know when, so I got excited when I got to recycle my Christmas lights for summer.

I Had so much fun making these, seriously if you have extra time in your hands or kids that could help you can make lots of these and use them for other projects.

........hopping you were able to follow all the steps, you're now ready to blow your little box.

It should look like this. Fit your bulb through the hole.

Try using different colored paper...I used pages from some old books and wax paper.

Happy crafting and thank you for reading.

Sincerely
K.

How To Make Fancy Candles

Hi everyone,

Happy Wednesday.

I'm so excited to share this post. I've been wanting to learn how to make my own candles forever!
I was inspired by these cute long candles I saw on Etsy and I was dying to make my own.

Again, I clicked page after page on Pinterest to see if there were any simple posts that had anything to do with candle making and voila!! I found this!! If there is a blog I'm obsessed with it's A Subtle Revelry. Seriously, this girl has taken crafting to a whole-nother-level.

So I thought I should try my hand out in this. This was so much easier than I thought it would be.

You'll need:

-Wax
-Color block
-Thermometer
-A long wick (you can buy the spool)
-A double boiler (I just used a small pot that fit in a bigger pot)
-Knife (to cut the wax & color block)
-A pair of scissors
-Chopping board
-and a drying rack (I taped a chopstick on a corner wall)

(I bought my supplies from Michael's)

1. Fill the larger pot with water halfway and put the smaller pot on top..cut the wax block into smaller pieces and put in the smaller pot. DO NOT MICROWAVE THE WAX OR MELT WAX DIRECTLY ON THE STOVE!

2. Use the thermometer to check wax temp as it melts. The temp should reach 180 degrees. Add color and let it melt completely. I wanted an ombre look, so start adding color little by little. NOTE: a little color goes a long way. No need to use the entire block.

3. After all the wax has melted, remove from boiler and let it cool off for 3 mins. Fold your wick in half to desired length and start dipping until you reach your desired thickness. Occasionally molding the candle if necessary. This process took me about 10 mins.

4. Hang on your drying rack and wait until your candles are completely set. Cut the candles in half that way you have two long candles.

These would be fun as presents or even for kids birthdays. Have fun making your own candles and I would love to hear how they turn out.

Sincerely
K.
